The Statistical Institute also said that consumers were more optimistic about the prospects of the economy, based on the latest Consumer Confidence Index (CCI). The survey, which measures how Belizeans feel about the current economic climate, and their outlook for the next year, shows that Belizeans were more inclined to make large purchases. Jacqueline Sabal, Acting Manager of Economic Statistics at the SIB, said that, unlike other surveys that compare data on an annual basis, the CCI measures responses on a month-to-month basis. She explained that the 13.9 percent increase recorded in the latest survey, was an increase over September.
The SIB introduced the CCI in May and says that greater analysis will be done after a year of data has been accumulated./
