Consumer Prices down 0.3%

The Statistical Institute of Belize released its latest figures for June 2019, which shows a decrease of zero-point three percent in the prices of goods when compared to June 2018. The All-items Consumer Price Index, (CPI) went down from 105.0 in June 2018 to 104.7 in June 2019. The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category recorded an overall increase of zero-point six percent. Higher prices were observed for several items such as onions, eggs, watermelon, pineapple, lettuce, cabbage, and several meats. Meanwhile, House, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels recorded a decrease of zero-point seven percent, which was attributed to a one percent decrease in home rental costs for Belize District, Corozal District, Cayo District and Stann Creek District in June 2019.  When it comes to transport, prices were down on average by 3.5 percent when compared to June 2018. All Other Goods and Services recorded a zero-point four percent rise in consumer prices during the month of June 2019. For the month of June, the Punta Gorda Town recorded the highest increase in consumer prices with an inflation rate of two-point nine percent. Meanwhile, Dangriga Town experienced the lowest inflation rate with prices going down by five-point five percent for the month.
