Convicted Police Officer Avoids Prison in Vehicle Theft Case

Virgil Perez, the interdicted police officer convicted of stealing a fifty-five-thousand-dollar vehicle will not be spending any time in prison. That’s because High Court Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft imposed a three-year-suspended sentence, meaning that Perez can avoid prison time by keeping out of trouble with the law. Perez was also fined fifteen thousand dollars and needs to pay five thousand dollars by July 26. He will then have 10 months to pay off the remaining 10 thousand dollars. Perez will also have to pay five thousand dollars in compensation to the complainant. The vehicle was stolen from the Belize diesel Compound on the Philip Goldson Highway back in February 2012. Perez was trialed and convicted on February 16, 2023.
