Cops Crash Boat Party in Belize City

Police were called out to the Princess Pier in Belize City where a group of party goers were ready to leave Belize City on a catamaran for a social event. Persons who saw the group gathering at the pier informed Police Commissioner Chester Williams who sent a team of police officers to the scene. Social gatherings, parties on land and sea have been occurring and on a Saturday, ComPol Williams is sending a strong message to those party goers. Here again is Senior Reporter, Hipolito Novelo.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness: “When you look at Facebook you see parties, you see boat cruises and partying at night when restaurants which are supposed to be restaurants convert into bar and you see big partying and that is why you see the big numbers..”
And those numbers are exploding. With three variants of concern in the country, including the contagious Delta Variant and the vaccine resistance Lambda Variant, the Belize Police Department is cracking down on illegal social gatherings that have been going ignored for months.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “The Commissioner had sent out a memorandum instructing the police officers to once again reengage in the enforcement of the protocols because there was this feeling that they were relaxing. As you know COVID comes in waves.”
And the country is experiencing wave number three. But even so, that warning as many of the other warnings, fell on deaf ears and as real as COVID is, especially with the Delta and Lambda variants present, some people continue to ignore COVID regulations. Over the weekend, police detained this catamaran looking to leave Belize City filled with party-goers. Police Commissioner Chester Williams says it is activities like these that drive up the number of COVID-19 cases.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “On Saturday morning I received information of this party boat at the Princess Pier. I immediately called the police in Belize City and directed them to go to the location and to intercept the boat and to ensure that all those persons and the organizers on the boat are arrested and charged for breach of the quarantine regulation. We have been hearing for a number of time now about these party boats going out. We have seen the video footage as to what happens on these boats, the reckless behavior of people, consuming alcohol, socializing, doing all sorts of things on these boats. So it is activities like these that currently have us in the position that we are where you’re seeing that the numbers of infections as it relates to COVID is rising and so as a department we’re doing our best to see how we can assist the Ministry of Health and Wellness to mitigate the spread of this virus. “

The commissioner was informed by persons on the ground who were seeing the crowd getting ready to go party on the boat- events authorities have mentioned are prohibited. The party goers go into a nasty argument with persons who had expressed their disapproval with the boat party.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Those persons have been charged. I do not have the name offhand but the organizers of the party boat, those were on the boat and were in charge have been charged as well under the quarantine regulations.”

Reports surfaced that Belize City Councilor Allan Pollard organized the event. On Facebook today he denied the allegations saying, “I Allan Pollard DID NOT organize any boat party!!!” Reporting for Love News, I am Hipolito Novelo.
