Coral Treatment Shows Promising Results

For the past two years, the Fisheries Department has been trying to save Stony Coral that have been affected by a disease. The Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease has spread to various other coral colonies such as brain, pillar, star, and starlet. The species are of great concern as they are the main reef-building corals that provide maximum shoreline protection. According to Nicole Craig, the Country Coordinator for Healthy Reefs for Healthy People, an antibiotic treatment is being applied to the corals and the results look promising.

Craig says that while the treatment is effective, it is quite costly. This has prompted a communications campaign to encourage tourism stakeholders to participate in this effort.
