Corozal Resident Dies in Tragic House Fire
A 49-year-old resident of Corozal Town perished in a house fire early this morning. Just before three o’clock, firefighters responded to Seventh Avenue where they found the ten by fifteen zinc and wooden structure being consumed by fire. Despite the quick activation by the fire service, Omar Enrique Barahona died in the fire. Barahona’s house was one of three inside a yard where his brother, Rojelio occupies. According to Rojelio, he was sleeping when he heard someone groaning nearby, and then smelled smoke. He got up to find his brother’s house on fire. Police are in the process of taking statements from several persons, including the victim’s ex-partner who was the last person to see him alive. Love News understands that the two were seen at Sunset Restaurant the night before. The victim was reportedly consuming alcoholic beverages. Investigators are currently awaiting the report from the fire officials to confirm the cause of the fire.
