Corozal Town Council Hosts Public Consultation on Major Development Projects for 2026

Residents of Corozal stand to benefit from multiple projects ranging from coastal development, to refurbishing recreational areas. In a public consultation last night, the Corozal Town Council introduced a wide array of projects set to come to life next year. These projects aim at modernizing and safeguarding the community, as well as strengthening areas such as tourism and citizen safety. This essential consultation is designed to give residents a clear understanding of the upcoming works. It also provides an opportunity to gather constructive feedback from members of the public. Mayor Rigoberto Vellos outlined the specific locations slated for improvement and explained how these changes will positively impact the community.

Rigoberto Vellos, Mayor of Corozal Town: “Tonight is basically sharing information with the public on the project that we have on hand that should enroll next year, early next year. We want to do specifically based on tourism and of course ensuring that the town is more modernized, that we have safe spaces for our family. So it’s basically that, we’re only sharing information with the public but crucial information because we want to ensue that our public are well informed about our project. This is the second time we’re doing this public consultation. The first time was only to pitch the idea to our public, today we want to share the information that we have gathered and to inform them that the project will be enroll and for them to know exactly what is happening with the project. This is a project that will positively affect everybody not just people from around the are. I’m talking about a project that has to do battling against erosion, I’m talking about safe spaces, family spaces like Mother’s Park. I’m talking about tourism when it comes to the two piers the fisherman pier and the municipal pier, I’m talking about recreational areas like Liberty Court and Animal Park so and it goes as wide as an example of what we had at Chactemal with the different kiosks, even that. So it’s gonna affect positively the entire community of Corozal. So it’s very important for us to share information with them and very important for us to get a feedback from the public ensuring that they understand what is happening, that we don’t want to cause any inconvenience for anybody so it is a project that we want everybody to embrace with us.”

Another project that the council has undertaken is one linked to climate change mitigation.  We’ll tell you of this initiative in tomorrow’s newscast.
