Corporate Donations Boost National Celebrations: Digi and BWSL Contribute to Festivities

The National Celebrations Commission received fifty-thousand-dollar donations from Digi and Belize Water Services Limited to support the ongoing national celebrations. Kim Vasquez Institute of Creative Arts Director Kim Vasquez said that the donations will go a long way in supporting the packed calendar of events lined up for this year’s celebrations. Vasquez notes that the prize for the national song competition is twenty-thousand dollars and that the National Institute of Culture and History also gives funds to municipalities all over the country to assist with their calendar of events. 

Kim Vasquez, Director, Institute of Creative Arts: “We received as well from BWSL and from DIGI as well donations towards the national celebrations this year. The donations we received from BWSL and from DIGI were $50,000 respectively. We’re very pleased to have this support. You know, this really signifies that level of corporate responsibility. It really signifies the support for the national celebrations and we we salute the patriotism of both of these entities of DIGI and BWSL in in supporting our national celebrations. The work of the national celebrations commission in the areas of culture and our our September celebration.”

Reporter: You guys have quite a large list of events set for this year’s national celebrations, tell me a little bit about how these donations will help you guys achieve that end goal.

Kim Vasquez, Director, Institute of Creative Arts: “It does really help us too in our work as the at the NCC. It helps us as you know we also support the municipalities. Each municipality receives something from the national celebrations for their own calendar of events as well and we know that the business community within each municipality also does its part. Again, we salute and we commend that type of corporate responsibility, the support of the business community for the work in patriotism, in culture, in everything that we’re doing to really have this really robust and memorable calendar of events for this year Belize at 42.”

Notable events coming up include the 2023 carnival road march and the NICH at 20 concert, which is being held alongside the Gilharry 7 Band’s 50th-anniversary celebration.
