Prime Minister Dean Barrow has declared a State of Emergency for the country of Belize coupled with a curfew to run from 8pm – 5am everyday. The State of Emergency takes effect at midnight on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 and will last for 30 days initially. According to the PM, the Government is now forced to ensure that everyone complies with the social distancing practice and as such persons will only be allowed outside under extreme circumstances.
The Prime Minister explained that sufficient notice is being given to Belizeans to allow them time to gather what they will need as the State of Emergency will be for 30 days at the first phase. PM Barrow assured Belizeans in his statement that Belize has sufficient food supplies to feed its citizens. He added that the Government continues to source additional funds to assist those in need during this period. A press conference is slated for tomorrow at 10am.
