A Guatemalan couple’s visit to family in Arenal Village took a dangerous turn yesterday afternoon when they were ambushed and robbed at gunpoint on the Mollejon Road near a garbage site. 28-year-old, Carlos Alfredo Reynoso Zacarias, a construction worker from Guinea Grass Village, Orange Walk District, reported the incident to the Benque Viejo Police Station shortly after the ordeal. The robbery occurred around 2:00 p.m. as Reynoso and his wife, Xiashi Reynoso, were riding their black-and-red Meliun motorcycle back to Guinea Grass after visiting relatives. As they descended a hill on the Mollejon Road, two masked men emerged from the bushes. One of the men, armed with what appeared to be a black firearm, ordered the couple to stop. Fearing for their safety, Reynoso and his wife complied, dismounting the motorcycle. The armed man then demanded the motorcycle and instructed the couple to look away. The armed suspect was described as wearing a black mask that revealed only his eyes, along with a black long-sleeve shirt and dark pants. The second man’s features remain unknown. The stolen motorcycle, valued at three thousand five hundred dollars served as the couple’s primary mode of transportation. Police have recorded statements from both Carlos and Xiashi Reynoso and are actively investigating the robbery.
