COVID-19 Cases on the Rise

Tonight the COVID-19 numbers see a slight uptick as forty-seven new cases have been recorded over the past five days. Of those forty-seven cases, seventeen were reported today in the Ministry of Health and Wellness’s report. The report’s lock-off time was one this afternoon and includes information over the past twenty-four hours. We join Kathleen Azueta Cho of the Ministry of Health for more.

Kathleen Azueta Cho, Ministry of Health: “A total of 613 samples were tested. Out of this 17 samples have resulted positive for COVID-19. There are 3 new recoveries to report. Today we also report that 8 infected persons are hospitalized. We have 1 person in the intensive care unit and there are no new deaths to report. The cumulative report we are presenting is from March 2020 when we had our first case. The new total of active cases now stands at 93, these are those persons who have been confirmed and are within the time frame to transmit the virus. To date 112,281 samples have been tested nationally. Out of this 12,585 samples have resulted positive for COVID-19. There are 245 individuals newly under investigation. A total of 318 deaths have been reported but we are pleased to report that there are 12,164 total recoveries.”

Of the new cases reported, eleven were recorded in the Stann Creek, two were recorded in the Belize and Orange Walk District, while there was just a case each in the Cayo and Toledo District.
