COVID Becoming Common Cold?

The Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed one hundred and twenty-nine new cases of COVID-19. Fortunately, there are no deaths to report. Unfortunately, the number of active cases has increased to one thousand, two hundred and forty-three. It’s a concern that many Belizeans share including Prime Minister John Briceno.

Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “I think what is important with COVID it seems as the way it’s progressing is turning more into a serious cold, it does not say it’s not important to monitor it but it’s becoming more a serious cold and if you look at the number of hospitalization it has not increased and to me now that is what we need to be looking at the hospitalizations and we’re not seeing the hospitalizations going up. I really think we need to take a closer look as to sending people home because they have COVID or maybe we may need to reduce the time maybe cut it down a few more days because a lot of people are losing work because of covid when we know that it’s only I think the first five days that you are infectious and then after that you’re not and so we need to take a look at that and people need to get back to work.”

The positivity rate is ten point nine percent.
