Cowpen Village Football Field Upgraded

Cowpen Village Football Field Upgraded

Young athletes from Cowpen Village, Stann Creek District will now be better able to sharpen their skills thanks to major upgrades to the village’s football field. Yesterday, several young female football players gathered at the renovated pitch for its inauguration. The initiative was the undertaking of Stann Creek West Area Representative and Minister of Sports, Rodwell Ferguson, the village’s council, and the private sector. Love News was there for the significant opening and spoke to Ferguson who explained the importance of sports in the community and how the venture was sparked.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Sports: “Very elated because Cowpen has come a very long way. When I first came into politics in 2003 there was no semblance of electricity in Cowpen. I commit to the people that we are going to make it happen and today is a reality. Even when there were little football fields in 2003-2008, Cowpen was not able to because there was no electricity. So today this is a milestone for the people of Cowpen. I want to thank Fyfes and all those who contributed to make this fence a reality. This is a significant improvement and the lights on the football field I want to thank Emilio and the chairman and myself together we all make this become a reality. So today, is the climax, we are going to see the official opening and I was told that they’ll name it the Evis Centeno Football Field. Unfortunately, she’s not here, and let me say something, Evis just became the Director of the National Sports Council for Belize. So she has just gained a big name that’s  a momentum for her but because she has proven herself to the nation that she’s going to work for the improvement of football and sports in general.”
