A new chapter for the creative arts in Belize began this morning with the launch of a new creative writing program. The venture, titled “A Book of Stories and Poems”, is a compilation featuring the voices of young writers from primary and secondary schools across the country. The launch took place at the Belize National Festival of Arts and was met with excitement and pride. This year’s publication marks a significant moment, the official re-entry of creative writing into the festival. The festival, traditionally known for performances in dance, music, and drama, is now expanding its recognition to include the written word. Speaking with Love News, the Director at the Institute of Creative Arts (NICH), Ms. Kim Vasquez, emphasized the importance of elevating writing as an art form.
The Festival of Arts has been a cherished national stage for creative expression since the 1950s.
