Crime is down, but murders are up for the first six months of this year when compared to the same time last year. That was the main message of the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams as he met with regional commanders this morning in Belmopan. Today, the Belize Police Department held its Computer Performance Statistics (COMPSTAT) meeting at the Police Training Academy. The bi-annual meeting provides the department a chance to assess whether its crime-fighting strategies have been effective based on data from the various regions, divisions, and formations. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, spoke on the most recent numbers and what areas are of concern for the police.
Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa was asked to weigh in on the uptick in murders and his government’s decision to implement two State of Emergencies in less than six months.
The meeting is held on a quarterly basis.
