The Belize Police Department’s Crime Information Management System (CIMS) has recently experienced a technical disruption, temporarily limiting access for police officers across the country. Reports reaching the Love News newsroom indicate that the digital platform, which is critical to daily policing operations, had been inaccessible for nearly two weeks. CIMS is used to record and retrieve essential data, including crime reports, case files, and other operational information vital to investigations. According to an official comment, the disruption required technical support from the system’s parent company, SAS, to restore full functionality. Authorities say they are now working closely with SAS to ensure the continued stability of the platform. We further understand that the inaccessibility is linked to an unpaid software license, but that the outstanding bill has since been settled and access for police officers is expected to resume shortly. Meanwhile, officials have confirmed that SAS has advised that the CIMS platform is being phased out as part of a broader strategic migration to a new system. Discussions are currently underway with SAS regarding the proposed replacement platform, while authorities are also evaluating alternative solutions to ensure a secure and seamless migration of data. Until the system becomes accessible the police department is unable to access any past police reports or statements.
