On the heels of this murder in Seine Bight Village, the Secretary of the Village Council, Akeem Palacio, expressed concerns over the dangers looming in the area. He also expressed concerns over the belief that outsiders are the ones going into the village to commit the crimes.
Akeen Palacio, Seine Bight Village Council: “There are reports that are reaching out about crime and violence and so on on the Placencia peninsula and in particular Seine Bight that I must make clear to the public that the people who are involved in these criminal activities are not from Seine Bight itself. The recent one which occurred about two days ago or yesterday I believe where the Mexican national was actually killed again I was made to understand that the police are on top of their game and they are the ones who are actually pressing to capture whoever did it. My understanding is that they have one person in custody who, again is not from Seine Bight. Now these people they come here looking for jobs or seeking refuge or some of them just find it as a blessed little place and so they come here and they live here and they would find jobs basically at these resorts. Nothing is wrong if you come into the community and share positive things in the community but whenever people come into the community to give the village itself a bad name or a negative name then we will stand strong to make sure that that doesn’t happen.”
