Staying with tourism, the BTB has been shifting their efforts toward the revival of cruise tourism in the country. The industry is hoping to be able to reopen the cruise ports to full capacity by the end of this year. Today, Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler explained that after consultations with cruise lines, a new issue has been raised. While cruise calls are on a rise, the size of Belize’s ports is not feasible for them to dock.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations: “It is important for us to truly get a docking facility and we are working with the stakeholders. The cruise lines have said to us that because of the sizes of the ships that are being built that tendering is not feasible for them and so the faster we get stick bank on board and if other ports are built the better for us.”
