Several Belizeans who are employed by cruise lines are expected to arrive home this week. Foreign Affairs CEO, Anne Lou Burns says while they are aware of the cruise lines none of the Belizeans aboard the vessels have filled out the repatriation forms.
Anne Lou Burns, CEO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “It’s very important for people to understand that at this time especially in the development of COVID that there is a lot of discussion and coordination between countries and especially for example with the cruise lines. So CARICOM as a whole has met on a number of occasion with the cruise ship operators to look after the welfare and to ensure that our people who are working on those vessels are okay and can find a way we can get them home. So yes we are aware that we have nationals on more than one cruise line and yes we’re aware of the intention to bring them back to Belize and that is also going to be a part of that carefully coordinated reentry to the country. Again in those cases not all of those people have applied on the COVID-19 Belize website and we’re asking you please if you are among that group to fill out that information on that application form so that we can get in touch with your individually.”
One such cruise expected to drop off Belizeans by Saturday is the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise ship. Love News understands that at least one dozen Belizeans are currently aboard the vessel.
