Tonight, Curtis Molina the man accused of murdering his cousin, his cousin’s wife, his 3-year-old son, and injuring his 11-year-old daughter is behind bars. Today, police charged the 45-year-old with 3 counts of murder in the fatal shooting of Elvis Garbutt Sr., Manuela Garbutt, and Ellis Garbutt. On Saturday night, around 8:30, Molina ambushed Garbutt and his family as they headed home on Monkey River Road. In an attempt to rob Garbutt, Molina placed several trees in the middle of the road and lured the 39-year-old out of his SUV. He then opened fire on the family with a shotgun, fatally shooting Garbutt and his wife, and 3-year-old Ellis, and injuring his daughter Elliana. Today, we spoke to Finity Muschamp, Manuela Garbutt’s brother, about the arrest and he explained that while it is welcoming news, the surviving victims remain traumatized. He provided an update on 8-year-old Elvis Garbutt Jr., who escaped unharmed, and little Eliana who remains hospitalized.
Finity Muschamp, Brother of Emerita Garbutt: “While Mr.Molina is. Behind bars it is not easy for me to say the situation for my nephew and my niece. They are traumatized. Each time they look through that door they still feel that he is out there, he is looking for them. They attempted to wipe out the entire family. And it is not enough for us to say he has been detained, he has been charged. It’s not enough. It’s not serving enough justice for us to say the least. While we understand that our loved ones will not be coming back but the pain that my nephew, my niece will have to live with for the many years to come that their mom, their dad will never be coming back home. This is the most painful part that our family will have to live with. Currently we are asking the public for anyone who would like to assist the family especially the medical expenses for my niece as the doctors are monitoring her situation right now. Even though she has been shot in the jaw along with one of her hands she may have some complications later on and we are pleading to the public if there is any way anyone would like to assist us and support the family they can do so I have provided my bank account number via my Facebook page. We are preparing for the post mortem which will be done latest on Friday and we are looking over the weekend to lay my sister and the baby to rest.”
The family was returning from Indian Creek Village after celebrating Eleana Garbutt’s father’s birthday.
