The gun violence in Belize is still an area of crime that authorities are working to combat. Until then there will be murders and shootings to report. Tonight, we tell you of the death of 37-year-old, Cyril Jones of the San Pedrito Area of San Pedro Town. Jones met his demise last night in his own yard. Deputy Commissioner of Police Chester Williams briefed the media on this latest murder.
Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police: “San Pedro police were called to the San Pedrito area responding to information of shots being fired. Upon arrival they saw the lifeless body of one Cyril Jones, he was lying on the ground motionless at his home with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head. He was transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor out there. Police have since detained four persons in connection with that murder investigation and the investigation continues.”
Jones was slouched face down, with half of his body in the doorway and the other half on the porch area of an apartment room. He had an apparent gunshot injury above between his lip and nose. Preliminary police reports indicate that Jones was at home with his wife, sister-in-law and children when someone from outside whistled. Jones went to the door and peeped outside to see who it was when a loud bang was heard after which he fell to the floor. Jones was in the news previously in July 2005 on Kraal Road in Belize City. Cyril Jones leaves behind a wife and three children.
