Dangriga Man Dies in Fatal RTA

Dangriga resident Darnell Swaso just turned thirty on Friday and unfortunately, a day later, the young father lost his life in a tragic road incident. It happened on Saturday evening as Swaso and his co-worker, Carlos Reyes were heading home from Placencia on Saturday evening. Police say that Swaso, who was at the wheel, lost control of the Honda Acura and slammed into a drain in an area between Miles 4 and 5 on the Placencia Road. The car overturned and Swaso was flung from the vehicle, sustaining head and body injuries. Correspondent Harry Arzu reports.

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: The incident happened Saturday evening while Darnell and his friend were returning to Dangriga from the Peninsula in a car. Reports here say that the driver of the car lost control of it and Darnell reportedly was flung out of the vehicle. His friend who also works at Bowen and Bowen Distributers here in Dangriga is at the Southern Regional Hospital receiving treatment. Love News spoke with Darnell’s Mother Doreen Sacasa who tells us more.

Doreen Sacasa, Mother: “The boy he got in the accident with he says that my son was driving but I know I’ve never ever seen my son driving a vehicle yet. When they said he flew out of the vehicle it’s hard for me to believe. So I don’t know but I told my brother everything so he will look into that too. The owner of the vehicle said that they were driving and he flipped over and he fell out of the vehicle.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: So what can we say about Darnell ?

Doreen Sacasa, Mother: “Darnell is a sweet boy. Darnell plays football. He is a sweet, loving son that I have. He plays football.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: Does he have children ?

Doreen Sacasa, Mother: “Yeah he has three children he just had a son two months ago and that is what really hurt me.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: Sacasa added that her son would usually ride a motorcycle instead of driving a vehicle and she’s doubtful that he was the driver of the vehicle.

Swaso leaves behind three children including a two-month-old son.
