Francis Humphries, Mayoral candidate for the United Democratic Party in the Dangriga Municipality will be seeking office for a third term. Our Stann Creek correspondent Harry Arzu spoke to him and he spoke on some of the work he has done in the last three years.
Francis Humphreys, Mayor of Dangriga: “These difficult times imposed on this community by the COVID pandemic requires a measure of courage and commitment and compassion in this community that we will bring to the forefront and prove to our residents that the seven of us who put forward our experience and capabilities to look after the affairs of culture capital are more than competent to deliver exactly what we promised and pledge to deliver; compassion, courage ,commitment. Between December the first and the Christmas holidays this council gave to its workers a three percent increase in their wages and salaries retroactive to April the first and at the same time saw to it that all of our staff members who had earned increments received their increments as well and all the persons who were earning and still are earning their retirement benefits got an increase in those benefits as well. So the pensioners along with all the workers took home that three percent increase retroactive to April the first before the Christmas holidays. Today we sign this collective bargaining agreement and that is what we mean by being compassionate at a time when our community is under severe stress both by crime and by COVID-19.”
His councilor candidates are Garry Francisco, Eartz Lopez, Alexander Joseph and Deputy Mayor, Aaron Gongora.
