Meanwhile in the culture capital, retired Police officer Robert Mariano took his oath as the newly elected PUP Mayor along with his six councilors.
Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: A new Dangriga Town council under the leadership of Mayor Robert Mariano was officially sworn in today by the local magistrate here in town. The event was held at the Princess Royal Park where residents from this municipality attended and applauded the new council as they were being sworn in. During the ceremony area representative for Dangriga, Sarawee and Hope Creek Honorable Dr.Luis Zabaneh addressed the gathering.
Hon. Dr.Luis Wade, Area Representative: “Brothers and sisters it is a great honor to be addressing you here today after a big victory for our party but in my mind it’s also a great victory for all of our people in Dangriga because now we will have the kind of leadership that Dangriga deserves and I bring warm regards to you from Prime Minister Briceno and all of my colleagues he is grateful for all the support that you have shown.”
Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: As part of the ceremony a local cultural group entertained the crowd with the pulsating sound of the Garifuna drums while they sang. At the conclusion of the ceremony the new Mayor Robert Mariano gave his remarks.
Robert Mariano, Mayor of Dangriga: “Special thanks goes to the Prime Minister of Belize Honorable Johnny Briceno and I’m addressing you as your new mayor of the first time. I also come before you as your humble servant. My team and I have campaigned making several promises to you all and I vow to achieve each and every one of them. For your information gone are those days when you will see politicians just before elections. We will be in you different zones on a monthly basis, every month I will be in your area. It’s important for me to keep in touch with you. The work that you demand will now begin.”
After the ceremony a motorcade went through the main streets of the town.”
