Daring Dangriga Heist Caught on Camera

The police say three thousand dollars were stolen in a daring heist at Family City Imports in Dangriga. Customers and employees were caught off guard when the men ran in with guns blazing and held up the establishment on on Saturday night. The owner of the store, Ting Jiu Liu, told police that one of the robbers jumped over a counter and stole the cash from the boledo sales while another thief emptied a cash register. Today, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo told Love News that in addition to detaining suspects, the police have recovered a shotgun and a pistol believed to have been used in the robbery.

ASP Alejandro Cowo – Head CIB Belize City: “Police responded to a robbery at Family Import located at half-mile George Price Drive in Dangriga Town where upon arrival they spoke to the owners of the business establishment who reported to police that whilst he was inside of the business establishment along with other workers and patrons four male people entered the business establishment: one of them armed with a shotgun and two armed with short arms. They held up the persons inside and stole from them about $3,000 in cash from the cash register. Thereafter they made good their escape.”

Reporter: “It was caught on camera?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo – Head CIB Belize City: “Yes, there were several surveillance footages as the police have been looking at which resulted in the detention of three male persons. I believe that they will be charged sometime this evening. Police also recovered a shotgun and a pistol which they suspect that it was involved or used in this robbery.”

Jose Sanchez – Reporter: “ They are people who have been detained before due to crime or these are new criminals in the area?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo – Head CIB Belize City: “I believe that they are known persons from Dangriga. We as what the Compol mentioned advised the business owners that we have seen an increase in robberies especially in these business establishments in the outskirts of either the districts or the city. You notice it is more difficult for police to have quicker access to these areas and hence the reason I think that is the advantage that some of those people are taking to commit these robberies in more remote areas.”

On Sunday, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams issued a statement warning businesses to be vigilant.
