
David Mendez Appointed as National Emergency Coordinator for NEMO in Belize

David Mendez, husband of Governor General of Belize Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam, is the new National Emergency Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO). The Government of Belize announced late this evening that Mendez, a retired captain of the Belize Defense Force, will be leading the implementation of Belize’s comprehensive disaster management policies. Mendez takes the post with over 20 years of 20 years of experience in leadership, crisis, and disaster management. Mendez holds a Master of Science in Risk, Crisis, and Disaster Management from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies. Mendez is also a former Disaster Risk Management Specialist at the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management. He succeeds former National Emergency Coordinator Shelton De Four.
