DAY 1 – 2016/2017 Budget Debate

Before going into his budget contribution, Opposition Leader John Briceno noted that during his meetings with the various public and private groups, the common concern and criticism brought forward is the way Area Representatives speak to each other. It was becoming a norm to hear the elected representatives be disrespectful to each other. Not much of that was heard today signaling a change of atmosphere among the parliamentarians. Giving their contribution to the debate were Lake Independence Area Representative, Cordel Hyde and Belmopan’s Area Representative, John Saldivar.

Former Opposition leader, Francis Fonseca, criticized Barrow’s budget saying it’s a budget filled with empty promises and hard times for the Belizean people. Meanwhile, Albert’s Area Representative, Tracey Taeger Panton, focused on the work the Government has been doing and will continue to do.
