Two delivery men were shot at on Saturday in two separate incidents; one was hit while the other fortunately escaped injury. The first shooting occurred just before 3pm. 37-year-old Issa Nunez parked his delivery truck, with his son inside, on St Thomas Street, near Twin Supermarket when the crime began unfolding. Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero gave the media a briefing on the case.
Sr.Superintendent, Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, Crimes Investigation Branch: “Police visited the KHMH where they saw Issa Nunez with a gun shot injury to the right thigh. Investigations revealed that he was in a truck on St.Thomas Street when he was approached by two male persons who demanded money. There was some delay and at some point one of the male persons fired a shot which caught the victim on the leg. He drove himself to the KHMH where he received treatment . Investigation are on going into this matter and nobody has been charged for this incident. No they did not steal anything, they fired the shot and then they fled.”
The second shooting incident occurred sometime around 5:30pm. 25-year-old Jesus Cuellar survived an attempt on his life while he was delivering ice at New Hope Grocery Shop on Baymen Avenue, Belize City. Reportedly, a man on a motorcycle drove passed him and fired several shots in his direction. Two delivery trucks had bullet holes in them, but Cuellar was uninjured.
