Death Came for “Diablo”

Death came for the man called “Diablo” on Saturday night. Thirty-eight-year-old Radulfo Alvarez went to visit his sister in Cotton Tree Village at around 9 o’clock. His sister was not there so he decided to return home and as he stepped away from the house, the shooter pounced. With the help of Belmopan Correspondent Fem Cruz, reporter Hipolito Novelo files the following report.

Thirty-eight-year-old Radulfo Alvarez went to visit his sister but he was met with death. Alvarez walked from his Cotton Tree Village house to his sister’s in the same village on Saturday night. After realizing that his sister was not there, he started to walk back but that’s when the shooters pounced.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer: “Because he has relatives that live nearby they rushed to his assistance where they transported him to the Western Regional Hospital.”

From there he was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City where he succumbed the following morning.  Alvarez was shot to the head and body. Police are working in identifying a suspect.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer: “We haven’t identified any assailant as yet, specific assailant. Several persons have been questioned. Police have detained several persons but so far we haven’t made any arrests in this recent murder.”

The area where Alvarez was shot is extremely dark at night. Investigators are hoping that villagers come forward with information to aid the investigation. Meanwhile, the Alvarez family are puzzled as to who would want him dead and why.

Family member: “All that we know is that he went to leave his wife at his mother-in-law and then he came back to the village. He went to leave his wife in Belmopan and then he came back to the village toward my sister’s house where he didn’t make it. They approached him they killed him. He was a good person, everybody knows that. Everybody knows him as Diablo. The police are doing their job and we can’t do nothing, it already happened so we’re just leaving it in the hands of God.”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer: “For you to be visiting a house that you always visit and then or you to meet your untimely demise like this it clearly indicates that someone had something against you.”
