Demetri Myers gets warm welcome home

Today, Gold Medalist, 14-year-old Demetrie Meyers, got a hero’s welcome home, complete with a motorcade through the streets of Belize City. This afternoon, the young athlete touched down at the PGIA and was greeted by the Minister of Youth and Sport along with personnel from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and the National Sports Council. Meyers was then paraded to the Marion Jones Sports Complex, where he was presented with three thousand dollars and a parcel of land. The gold medalist is in the country to participate in this weekend’s National Track and Field Competition after domination at the CARIFTA Games. Love News caught up with Meyers at the airport and spoke to the runner about his grand return to Belize.

Over the weekend, Meyers captured first place in the U-17 Boys in the 1500 m Finals and the U17 Men 3000m Finals.
