The Ministry of Health is working hard to contain an outbreak of dengue. The numbers recorded so far for this year have surpassed last year’s record. Doctor Marvin Manzanero, the Director of Health Services, said the last recorded death as a result of dengue occurred five years ago.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero – Director of Health Services: “Preliminary reports that we got this morning was 709 confirmed cases. I believe all districts are still showing a small spike. What we do is tabulate data, when you compare 2019 to 2017 and 2018. Up to this time period last year we only had one hundred and eleven cases so you would say that we have seven times more cases up to this time period last year. I think in some of the data we shared last year for the year 2017 and 2018 combined we have doubled the cases this year so that is the preliminary data we have, we obey that routinely every Monday.”
Meanwhile, there have been several deaths in the region. Manzanero explained that the Ministry of Health is drawing cabinet’s attention to the situation in order to get the political backing to fight the disease
