The Department of Youth Services hosted a small business training today in Dangriga Town, Stann Creek. The initiative focused on equipping business owners with essential skills and knowledge in key areas such as access to finances, business registration, and self-employment benefits. Recognizing the vital role that small businesses play in the economy, the department says it’s committed to investing in entrepreneurs to ensure their long-term success. Stann Creek Correspondent Harry Arzu spoke with the DYS coordinator Tanya Danderson about the initiative.

Tanya Danderson, Coordinator for Youth Entrepreneurship, DYS: “For today’s training we’re in the southern region and so we have participants coming to us from Dangriga, or let’s call it Strann Creek General and Toledo General. Well today’s training like I said before focuses on business formalization. Many businesses have started out since COVID, they’re running but today we want to focus our attention in assisting our youth entrepreneurs to get themselves formalized, to get themselves registered so they can access the various services that come their way and the department has partnered with these different agencies to ensure just that. Not just for the listening ear but actually putting it into action.”
The next training session will be held in San Ignacio.
