DHS is no longer required to release names of covid-19 patients

Statutory Instrument 134 created a stir on social media after Love News reported that the Director of Health Services was unaware that he was being forced by law to hand over the names of Covid-19 patients.  The SI was forcing to have Dr Marvin Manzanero release the names to the Ministry of National Security for the purpose of police monitoring.

Many persons stood behind the DHS, Dr Marvin Manzanero, as he refused to adhere to the SI on the grounds of ethics and patient confidentiality.  The National Oversight Committee met on the matter and just like that the decision was made to seek an alternative.  The SI was repealed on Friday but it wasn’t until today that the Government of Belize issued a notice to the media.  Love News spoke with Dr Manzanero yesterday who confirmed that this time around he was included.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “There is a new SI signed on Friday and I believe that repeals SI number 134.”

Reporter: There is ? We didn’t get a copy of it.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “There is.”

Reporter: You’ve checked it personally, that it’s okay ?

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “Yes I got it on Saturday.”

Reporter: Alright and you’re satisfied with that?

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “I checked it and it appeals 134.”

The repeal was for the Quarantine (Prevention Of The Spread Of Infectious Disease) (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020.
