Did SSB’s Investment Committee Not Know that Pharmacy Did Not Have a License to Operate?

Pharmacy Express Limited will no longer receive seven million dollars from the Social Security Board as a loan. This is after the company withdrew its application after serious concerns were raised not only by the public but by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. The ministry expressed to the SSB that Pharmacy Express was operating without a license and should not be dispensing or supplying pharmaceuticals to the public. Health officials raided the company’s four pharmacies in Fort Street Tourism Village in Belize City and confiscated pharmaceuticals. Today we asked SSB CEO, Deborah Ruiz, if the investment committee did not establish that Pharmacy Express did not possess a license. Here is how she responded.

According to Ruiz, if concerns were not raised it was likely that Pharmacy Express would be given the seven million dollar loan.
