Digicell Services formally launched its expansion project this morning that will improved cellular coverage in the Jaguar Paw area. According to the Chairman of the Board for Belize Telemedia Limited, Mark Lizarraga, the improvement was necessary for various reason.
Mark Lizarraga, Chairman, BTL Board of Directors: “With the cruise ship passengers frequent this place as well as Belizeans and you can see all the economic activity that surrounds this area. Unfortunately it is in an area that is surrounded by hills so the signal that we have in Franks Eddy for example does not reach here. So we decided after speaking to the people from the institute of culture and history that this was a worthwhile investment and so we proceeded of course to make this a part of our expansion programs for last fiscal year and we’re happy to be here today with full connectivity at Jaguar Paw. We have full 4G and internet here now at this site so you shouldn’t have any connectivity issues when you’re doing business or visiting Jaguar Paw or on the road coming in because we’ve improved the site and we’ve modernized the site at Franks Eddy as well. What we have done this year we have launched fifteen new cell sites like this. We have modernized seventeen sites and improved the coverage area that those sites can cover. We’ve upgraded and modernized those sites and we have expanded our fiber to the home to fourteen villages across this country so now fourteen more villages in Belize will have internet delivered to their homes.”
The expansion project was done at a cost of two hundred thousand Belize dollars.
