For today the Ministry of Health has reported five new cases of Covid-19. It has been the lowest number of cases reported during a 24-hour period in recent months. Additional data shows that sixteen cases have been dubbed as recovered, and there are no new deaths to report. Acting Director of Health Services Dr Melissa Diaz-Musa told Love News that the public ought not take the low numbers for granted as precautions are still required.
Dr.Melissa Diaz Musa, Acting Director of Health Services : “I just really want to plead to the general public that it’s great that numbers are going down but countries all over the world are going back into a second or third lockdown and we need to be aware of the fact that this year is the year that the vaccines are coming as you all see on the news many countries have started their vaccine campaign and we have to ensure that our response in Belize is one that we don’t only depend on the Ministry of Health and the police but it’s individual responsibility; do not travel if you don’t have to, don’t go visiting vulnerable people if you don’t need to, avoid visiting the elderly or persons with diabetes or high blood pressure or even avoid inter-district travelling if it’s not necessary. So the more we move the more the virus will move, the more that we are disciplined and we avoid things that aren’t essential the better it will be for our country in the longer run.”
