Domestic Violence Leads to House Fire Up North

In other ongoing investigations, Corozal Police are looking into a house fire that occurred last night in San Jose Village. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett explained that it was a case of domestic disturbance that got out of control.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Jose Huchim reported to police that sometime earlier that night himself and his common law wife were socializing and thereafter they got into an altercation where Huchim suffered some injuries. As a result he took his kids and then went over to his sister’s home in order to avoid any further problem with his common law wife. As a result this house is being rented by Huchim and his common law wife and the proprietor of this building later saw the common law wife leaving and shortly thereafter she saw smoke and then fire. The woman then ran away from the scene where she fell and was unconscious and she was transported to the Orange Walk Hospital where she was treated and she is now detained pending this investigation.”

Police moved in on a residence in Belize City where frequent social events were taking place. ACP Myvett spoke on this incident along saying that there are several gambling houses popping up in the city.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “After about a month of surveillance being conducted because of activities being carried out the home of Lester Levi on Nurse C Street Belize City an operation was carried out where a number of ten other persons were found there gambling and as a result those persons have been charged under the gambling act as well as Mr.Lester has been charged for hosting an illegal gathering. We do expect though that as the investigation progresses there may be other charges levied against hm. Also there was a simultaneous operation carried out on Freetown Road at another gambling house which was being operated by one Earlyn Neal where a number of persons were also found and have also been arrested and charged in relation to that. We continue to urge those persons to take seriously the regulations in respect to the health issues and those things are discouraged but however seemingly a number of persons are not adhering hence the reason we are carrying out these operations.”
