Dorlan Bowman Recognized as the 222nd Commonwealth Point of Light

Belizean Dorlan Bowman has been recognized as the 222nd Commonwealth Point of Light for her exceptional voluntary service championing women’s rights and gender equality. Bowman is one of the country’s leading social justice activists who dedicated more than 40 years to championing women’s rights and gender equality and supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse. Bowman, who formerly served on the Belize City Council, founded the ‘Belize Women’s Political Caucus’ to increase the election of women to national decision and policy-making positions. Most recently, she created the ‘Building People Movement’, a project to increase awareness of rights around sexual assault laws and support those affected by gender-based violence. The Commonwealth Points of Light awards celebrate inspirational acts of volunteering across the Commonwealth and help inspire others to make their own contribution to tackling some of the greatest social challenges of our time.
