The minister’s apology came a few hours after Dr Fernando Cuellar resigned from the Board of Governors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA). Dr Cuellar reportedly sent a message in the WhatsApp group stating, quote, “I will be submitting my resignation from the BOG of KHMH today…. I urge that your decision process and policy creation have the allegiance to the Belizean populace exclusively. Thank you for your tolerance over the past 2 months.” End of quote. The resignation has come on the heels of the comments made by Minister Chebat on Wednesday regarding the shortage of meds and supplies at the KHMH. Minister Chebat told the media that the board at the KHMH needs to step up and do their duties; signaling a lack of effort from the board members. Dr Cuellar lashed back at Chebat in a media interview yesterday saying, quote, “*He said that the board and the management of KHMH should step up which implies that we have not been working or stepping up enough which is quite insulting, saddening, and downright not true.” End of quote. Love News additionally understands that the doctor’s departure is based on his dissatisfaction with the recent appointments to the hospital’s board at the request of the Minister Chebat. Dr Cuellar’s resignation took effect today.
