The Omicron variant is less severe in comparison to other SARS-CoV-2 variants as the lungs are mostly spared in such COVID-19 cases. Omicron had less severe effects on persons who were infected with the omicron variant. In fact, Omicron replicated more slowly than Delta and other coronavirus variants. Doctor Fernando Cuellar says that it might be a blessing in disguise.
Dr.Fernando Cuellar, Internist: “There were some very interesting theories I saw over the weekend with different experts worldwide especially the people that they call a virologists that study viruses that said that this whole thing with omicron might be a blessing in disguise. Why? Because more people will get sick, they will get immunized against it, they will develop natural immunity, so it will give them some type of defense for whatever future variants come. So we might get to the herd immunity a bit quicker because of the omicron virus, that’s a working theory that’s not etched in stone yet. Which I didn’t think about until I saw the numbers come up and the people are saying well maybe it’s a good time, we go from pandemic to endemic which means that we will have it around all the time like the flu but it won’t reach numbers.”
