Doctor Omar Figueroa was sworn in this morning as the substantive Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development. It was announced on Tuesday that the Cabinet would be seeing some changes. This included the separation of the Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development from the Ministry of Agriculture. This means Figueroa will no longer work under Minister Godwin Hulse. There was a brief swearing in ceremony earlier today at the Belize House by Governor General, Sir Colville Young. Here is a snippet of that ceremony.
Omar Figueroa, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development :“I Omar Figueroa do swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Belize and will uphold the constitution and the law and that I will conscientiously, impartially and to the best of my ability discharge my duties as a Minister and do right to all manner of people without fear or favor, affection or ill will so help me God.”
Back in January 2015, Figueroa was first sworn in as a Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, after winning his seat in the by-election in the Cayo North electoral division. After the general elections in November 2015, Figueroa was appointed as the Minister of State in that Ministry, where he has remained since.
