Dr. Osmond Martinez Says He Would Consider Interim Defence Role

As the Prime Minister was contemplating the way forward with the defence ministry, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Development, Dr. Osmond Martinez, was asked today whether he would be prepared to rise to the challenge if he were offered the interim position.

Martinez did not rule it out, but said that such an offer would require careful consideration. He noted that the ministry carries major responsibilities, including oversight of national security institutions, and said he would have to think seriously before accepting any such appointment.

Osmond Martinez, Minister of State, Ministry of Economic Development: “No I haven’t. I am focusing at the Ministry of Economic Transformation. We have some medium and long term plans that we have been working with the Prime Minister so at no point I have offered it and I serve at the pleasure of the Prime Minister. Whatever he feels that I can serve better, that’s where I will serve. Nonetheless my expertise is in economics and I believe this is, I am in the right place at this moment.”
