As Williams prepares to transition to the CEO position, he emphasized the importance of a smooth leadership transition, urging officers to rally behind his successor. While there has been no official announcement, Dr. Richard Rosado is poised to take the helm of the department and be named the new Commissioner of Police. While Dr. Rosado brings over two decades of distinguished service to the department, Williams says he may have to overcome some hurdles. This morning, Williams spoke about the undermining he experienced within the department and why it may persists. He noted that he believes his successor is more than capable and is expected to continue steering the department in the right direction.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I told them that they need to throw their support behind the person who is going to be appointed Commissioner of Police when I leave. I explained to them the importance of them supporting the new commissioner. We are a disciplined organization and if you have something personal against the person who is going to be appointed you need to put that aside and focus on your professional responsibility which is to work with the commissioner in making this country safe. The person who is going to be appointed I believe that he is capable. He should be able to continue from where I am leaving off in enhancing the effectiveness of the police department and making this country safe. So they all pledged that they will support the person and I do hope that they do as they say and I also said to them that the practice of them calling and briefing the media when conferences are over I hope that comes to an end. Confidentiality is extremely essentially especially at our level. We cannot if at the top of the department we cannot keep certain things confidential then what do we expect of those persons below us. So I also told them that the undermining must also stop. Whoever is going to be the new commissioner they cannot undermine him, they must work together because they have one common objective which is to make this country safe. So I hope they take my advice and if they do then I foresee that they will have a smooth sailing in my absence.”
Dr. Rosado holds a doctorate in Business Administration with a concentration in Police Leadership from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
