The Department of Youth Services underwent skills training to enhance their capacities in handling the assessment of youth crisis in the community. The purpose was to provide counselors with a holistic approach to crisis intervention and crisis management. In an interview with Love News, the coordinators of the training explained how the officers are now better equipped with basic counseling skills.
The training session was attended by youth officers from all extremities of the country. The participants were provided the necessary training that will enable them to respond to different crisis situations that arise in society.
The southern and western districts expressed that in terms of counsellors, they are short on resources. However, the skills training has fortified the quality of their service to make up for the lack of their numbers.
Pamela Dyer, the Coordinator at The Department of Youth Services, stated that the department is looking to implement a hotline by the end of the year so that persons who are in a crisis can have easy access to their service.
