Minister Ferguson is also the minister of transport. We asked him for an update on the rollout of the electric buses in Belize City/.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport: “I believe those buses will come on stream maybe closer to the end of the year or early next year and we have agreed that we are going to utilise the western corridor from Belize City to Benque and back and so we’re saying if a bus leaves from Belize City to Belmopan first the pilot project will be for public officers from both directions at a reduced cost. Well the pilot is only for one year and so after one year we will determine what will become of the buses.”
Reporter: This is being pushed back in my view every time or are we on schedule ?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport: “Not really on schedule because they were talking about June of this year but I know it’s an IDB project I guess they’re trying to source the buses so that might be some delay.”
Reporter: Okay have you already worked out how the operators are going to benefit and run the runs themselves ?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport: “Well if that bus is running a present operator’s run from the revenue from the buses that we’re charging the public officers that operator gets as subsidy to make sure that he does not get affected.”
