The process for Belizeans to return to the country via the Philip Goldson International Airport has been made slightly easier. The registration requirement for nationals and permanent residents has been lifted and now, those persons only need to download and complete the questions on the Belize Travel Health App. Misty Michael, the Director of Marketing and Industry Relations at the Belize Tourism Board, explained the necessity in making the process simpler for Belizeans.
Misty Michael, Director, Marketing & Industry Relations, Belize Tourism Board : “Well I think especially for Belizeans I mean you live here, you’re a citizen, it’s important that we make the entry process as easy as possible so I definitely think it’s going to be a welcomed change for Belizeans and returning permanent residents. The questions in the health app ask basic information on the passenger name, where they live, what they’re coming to Belize for, how long they’re staying and then it asks some health related questions as well; if you’ve had COVID before, if you have any COVID like symptoms that sort of thing. PCR tests for arriving Belizeans and permanent residents are not being accepted. If passengers do bring a negative PCR they will still be tested upon arrival at the airport because they are going to end up going into the community.”
Those who test negative for covid-19 are expected to self quarantine for ten days. Those who test positive have the option of quarantining at the Ramada Hotel in Belize City at a cost or at a Quarantine Authority designated government-sponsored site such as D’Silva Camp in the Mountain Pine Ridge.
