Effects of Climate Change Lead to Increased Daily Temperatures

The National Meteorological Services of Belize has reported an alarming increase in temperature in the country. This increase is reported to be caused by climate change and is causing adverse effects on the environment and disaster risk management. According to Chief Meteorologist, Ronald Gordon, there has been a significant increase in present daytime and nighttime temperature when compared to the data collected within the past four decades. He also urges the public to take measures to reduce their carbon footprint and support efforts to combat climate change.

Ronald Gordon, Chief Meteorologist, National Meteorological Service: “From our perspective what we have observed the most significant impact of climate change that we have seen is an increase in temperature. So we have records going back from the 1960’s that show us there has been a clear increase in the average temperature , the maximum temperature, daily temperature and most of all the night time minimum temperature; our nights are warmer than before compared to the 1960’s so that’s one main impact from climate change that we have seen over the years. So gradually temperatures are warming up and that’s definitely an impact from climate change.“
