Eight hundred families receive assistance from the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Belize is providing eight hundred families from across the country with a food hamper to brighten up their Christmas. The hamper distribution is an annual tradition that many residents look forward to. The initiative seeks to provide the recipients with the necessary ingredients to prepare a Christmas meal. Major Jonathan Kellman, District Commander of the Salvation Army, says that this year’s distribution was a bit different. He explained how the organization was able to partner with various supermarkets to provide the recipients with a gift certificate to craft their own hampers.

According to Kellman, the total cost of the food distribution is around thirty-six thousand dollars. He says that the organization found it difficult to raise the required funds due to the tough economic times.
