Eighteen Turkish Nationals Face Court Over Illegal Entry Into Belize

Eighteen Turkish nationals are expected to be taken to court tomorrow where they will face charges for illegal entry into Belize.  The men were apprehended in a Dodge Ram pickup truck last night after Police were tipped off, and made the interception on Third Street in San Ignacio Town, the Sacred Heart College.  Love News understands that Special Branch is doing its preliminary investigation with indications that the men were enroute to the United States.  Further information indicate that there are two groups working in the west that facilitate the transportation of the illegal migrants from the western border to the Santa Elena border and then further north to Coatzacoalcos, a drop off point in Mexico.  Belize has seen an influx in Turkish nationals entering the country illegally, in the last six months with five sent back home last month for illegal entry.  Reports to our newsroom say that these nationals pay as much as eight hundred US dollars per person for the trip from Benque to Mexico.  Immigration sources say that Belize is facing a serious problem as it relates to illegal entries, as last week alone, ten Brazilians were taken to court for illegal entry, and about three weeks ago, there were fourteen apprehended as well.  In 2022, Venezuelans were at the top of the list in illegal migrants coming into Belize, followed by Cubans, and then Haitians.  With the visa relaxations appealed, those numbers have since dwindled.
