The body of an elderly Canadian man was found yesterday morning in southern Belize. 79-year-old James Slemp, who lives on the Hopkins Road in Stann Creek, was first reported missing on Friday night by his friend, Thomas Pou. Pou told police that Slemp was not answering his phone, and that the last time he saw him was around midday on Friday. Slemp’s body was found in a lagoon on the Hopkins Road, not too far from his residence around 11am yesterday. He had injuries to his back, prompting suspicions of foul play. Stann Creek Correspondent, Harry Arzu, followed the story and spoke to one of Slemp’s friends, Juanita Castillo. She stated that the residents put together a search party for him after they realised he was missing.
Police are currently looking for one suspect. We will continue to follow this story.
